CAPTAIN ROBERT ELLIOTT MORRIS, USN


Captain Robert E. Morris, USN, was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri on 01 April 1931. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1952, and was commissioned as an Ensign in October of the same year at the Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.

Captain Morris first served as Assistant Communications Officer aboard USS ROCHESTER (CA-124).  His sea duty. tours have included Operations Officer on USS BEATTY (DD-756) , Executive Officer on USS HOOPER (DE-1026) and USS PREBLE (DLG-15) , and Commanding Officer of USS PARSONS (DDG-33).

Captain Morris has also served ashore in a variety of capacities. He was Flag Lieutenant for JUSMAGG Athens and later Assistant Head of Officer Recruiting in the Bureau of Naval Personnel.

More recently, he has been head of the Atlantic / European / Middle East Section, Current Plans Branch of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.  He has twice served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, International Security Affairs.

He has been a student, Command and Staff, at the Naval War College, and has studied at the National War College. In 1964. he received an M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University.

On 27 July 1972 Captain Morris assumed command of the light guided missile cruiser USS LITTLE ROCK (CLG-4).

Among other awards Captain Morris is a recipient of the Legion of Merit (with gold star)

Captain Morris is married to the former Marjorie B. Greene of Newport, Rhode Island.

Captain and Mrs. Morris have a daughter, Carolyn.
