ELLIOT, ARTHUR J. II, LCDR. USN Lt. Cmdr. Elliot served aboard the
USS LITTLE ROCK in 1961 and 1962 as a Lt(jg). He later
volunteered for duty in Vietnam and was assigned CO of PBR (Patrol Boat
River) Squadron 57 in the Mekong area in Jan 1968. He served in this
capacity until killed in action on 29 Dec 1968.

Casualty was on Sep 16, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam Vietnam Memorial Wall Panel 43W - Line 9 From The Philadelphia Inquirer, 25 Sep 68 "Lance Corporal Rivers volunteered to go to Vietnam thus granting his younger brother, Levi, 18, military immunity from Vietnam service. But Levi, who is also in the Marines, subsequently waived the immunity and was also assigned to the battle area. - On September 16, Harry Rivers was killed during an enemy mortar attack in Quang Tri Province. He had been in Vietnam six weeks. He is survived by another brother and his parents. |

SMITH, RICHARD GMM USN
Dates on U.S.S. Little Rock: Summer of 1962 GMM Smith died as a result of injuries received in the Missile House Magazine (Area 3) from a high-pressure hydraulic line failure. From July 1962 Talosman "LITTLE ROCK was saddened last week by the death of Richard C. Smith, GMM3, who passed away after sustaining injuries while working in the missile house. Smith was a devoted and well respected member of the 3rd division. His home was in Michigan and he is survived by his wife and parents. On behalf of the ship, the TALOSMAN would like to send out its most heartfelt sympathy to Smith’s family. Although he is no longer with us, his warmth and sincerity will remain as an eternal memorial to those of us left behind." |
