U.S.S. Little Rock Association's

"Ladies Auxiliary"

Page last updated: 13 June 2011

Most sailors consider it unlucky to have a woman aboard ship . . . . .  to which we say "Hogwash!" Let it be known that the members of the U.S.S. Little Rock Association feel just the opposite when it comes to having women as part of our group.  In fact,  the ladies of the Association have their own group within the Association and they contribute mightily to the morale, well-being and smooth operation of our organization. Known informally at the "Little Rocker-ettes" or the "Lady Rockers" and  the "Ladies Auxiliary",  the gentle-women have one goal only, and that is to support the Association in whatever way they can.

To provide some semblance of organization, the Auxiliary has the following ladies as Officers. . . .

Carol Baker - Treasurer
Donna Jamieson -  Co-Coordinator
Grace Perillo - Co-Coordinator
Marlene Schuld - Secretary

Dear Little Rock Ladies,

This year our 2011 Reunion takes us back to Buffalo. We looking forward to seeing each of you again.

In addition to the bus tours, Memorial Service & Luncheon, and the Saturday evening banquet, one of the reunion highlites is our annual "Tricky Tray" auction. (A "women only" event!)
We will hold our auction while the men are having their business meeting.

A Trick Tray auction, which you probably know, is a combination of a raffle and an auction. The difference is that the buyers ("bidders") get to choose which prize(s) they want to win. Each buyer purchases tickets and uses them to bid on an item by putting one or more tickets in a bag beside the item(s) they are trying to win. At the end of the bidding period, one winning ticket is drawn from the bag beside each item, and the item is then given to the owner of that ticket.

What we need each of you to do is bring one or more items  for the auction. These items should be something "desireable" and can have any value. They can be serious or funny, useable, or a gag item. We also would like you to decorate the bag that will be used for each item. The bags will then be given to the winners.

In the past a significant portion of  the money we collect is presented to the Association at the Saturday banquet.

We also decided to collect dues of $5.00. This money is being set aside for a "special" ladies function.

If you were unable to join us in 2010, we really hope you will join us this year.
