| From the Winter 2007 LitComs: Dear Veteran & Associate Members: HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year we celebrate our l7th birthday. During these years, most, if not all of us, have renewed and indeed cemented friendships formed many years ago while we were considerably younger and serving on active duty aboard our venerable Little Rock, a Cruiser with style I liked to say! Your membership and full participation in the association's myriad activities aptly demonstrate your fondness for those memories and our collective commitment to its future. With the help of He who nourishes our daily needs, we will surely live to see our 25th anniversary together in good health and spirits. We thank you for being so supportive of our Ship's Store for the past few months. This income is critical to our financial well-being. The new Little Rock first class stamp is a big seller, as are the '60 -'61 Cruise Books on CD or in a bound hard copy. The stamps are sure to become a collector's item as we proceed through a planned series of images. Perhaps of greatest concern to me at this time is your response to our Museum/Restoration Fund solicitation. The contributions are rolling in but we have some distance to go before we can collect on the wonderful $25,000 challenge put up by one of our own members. We cannot afford to fail in this effort. My personal challenge is that I would like to see the Museum a completed reality before I leave office. If you have not done so, why not consider making a donation at the inception of this new year. Would it not be a joy to arrive in Buffalo next year to a finished memorial to ours and the ship's past? Please make us apart of your generous nature. PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF THE FACT THAT NO CONTRIBUTION IS TOO SMALL, AND ALL CONTRIBUTORS WILL BE GIVEN DUE RECOGNITION NO MATTER THE AMOUNT. It is still not too late to sign up for the July '08 reunion cruise on the Carnival Victory. There are still some cabins left at the negotiated rate. So far, more than 100 souls have registered for this opportunity to sail together and make merry in the North Atlantic in mid-summer. If you need registration forms, they are available on our web site or Frank Berglas can supply them upon request. We sure would like to see you all there: Perhaps we can "tip a few" under the evening stars and tell and re-tell the same old hilarious stories you do so well. Also, those of you who have a talent for taking good photos should bring your cameras. We will not have an official photographer and will need pictures to publish in the Fall '08 Litcoms. As has been customary for the past few years, the Board of Directors will hold its winter meeting in February and, again, probably at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. Your thoughts and suggestions on agenda items are always in order. Just let me or Frank B. know of your particular interests for consideration. With our very best wishes for the New Year. I remain, Yours sincerely, Gerard A. Dupuis. President |
