| From: Jerry Dupuis,
USS Little Rock Association President Via: Fall 2006 LitComs "As for our Shipboard Museum, the construction contract was signed in late July and work began soon thereafter. At this writing, the Third Division compartment is taking shape and the construction work should be done by late fall. After that comes the hard part: display cases and the retention of a qualified curator to set it all up. I don't want to make promises I can 't keep, but we still hope to have it all done by next July and our Reunion. Your continued generous support of our Restoration Fund will assure our success with this important project. Our next solicitation will come out some time this fall." - - - - - - - - - - - - -

From: Patrick J. Cunningham, Col. USArmy(Ret.) Executive Director Buffalo & Erie Co. Naval Park Via: Fall 2006 LitComs "I can report that work has begun on your new museum. The contractors are in the process of stripping the room. Last Friday they removed approximately one ton (yes that's right) of floor tiles - - four to five layers. Needless to say, it was not easy lugging those garbage cans full of trash up three levels to the main deck and then down to the shore. Any steel they are removing we are keeping aboard ship." - - - - - - - - - - - - -

From: Jerry Dupuis, USS Little Rock Association President Via: Winter 2007 LitComs "Perhaps of greatest concern to me at this time is your response to our Museum / Restoration Fund solicitation. The contributions are rolling in but we have some distance to go before we can collect on the wonderful $25,000 challenge put up by one of our own members. We cannot afford to fail in this effort. My personal challenge is that I would like to see the Museum a completed reality before I leave office. If you have not done so, why not consider making a donation at the inception of this new year. Would it not be a joy to arrive in Buffalo next year to a finished memorial to ours and the ship's past? Please make us apart of your generous nature." |
