A Letter from the President of the U.S.S. Little Rock Association August, 2007
Dear Veteran & Associate Members: This out of the ordinary summer mailing to each of you is occasioned by the fact that our 2008 Reunion plans have been set, and will be celebrated aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' ship "Victory". Unlike land based hotel reunions, which has been our custom for sixteen years, a shipboard cruise involves very different requirements and timetables. The Cruise Line, as expected, is not willing to keep registration open for many months, as does a hotel. Therefore, we need to plan early in order to secure the cabins that have been reserved for us, at the prices agreed upon with the Association. All arrangements for this Cruise Reunion are being handled by AAA of Tidewater Virginia (Ms. Rhonda Bartnikowski) thanks the splendid efforts of our member, George Thomas. Rhonda spent two days with us in July at our Buffalo Reunion, and managed to sign up quite a few couples right there. Now we go out to the entire membership with all of the pertinent information. Enclosed you will find the AAA Cruise Registration Form, as well as the Association Registration Form. Except for returning the Association Registration Form (and fee) to our Secretary, Frank E. Berglas, all of your dealings will otherwise be with Rhonda at AAA in Virginia. Cruise brochures are enclosed, containing all of the necessary information. Nevertheless, feel free to call Rhonda, me or Frank with any questions. Of utmost importance is the fact that all cruise passengers WILL REQUIRE A VALID PASSPORT. Plan on waiting at least two months for a new or renewed passport. The '08 cruise will leave the Passenger Ship Terminal on the West Side of Manhattan on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 5 :00 p.m., and will return to the same facility at 8:00 a.m. Monday, July 21. The cruise will consist of a four day sail to the Bay of Fundy, with a short stopover at St. John's, New Brunswick. The cruise costs listed in the brochure are all inclusive (including port charges) but, will not include land tours, alcoholic beverages. and personal shopping. For those of you questioning why a cruise, I would offer up that we could not find a suitable venue at reasonable prices for 2008. We have become somewhat spoiled by our past experiences, Buffalo being an extreme example with $89.00 room rates. Luckily, we have along term agreement with the Adam's Mark in Buffalo, which preserves that rate for the years '09, ' 11 and' 13. We will not experience that rate option anywhere else. The cruise costs are not out of reach as compared to what attendees spend at a land based reunion, where members experience separate costs for meals, tours, etc. Please give this promising adventure your thoughtful consideration. Come sail with us - one more time! Sincerely, Jerry A. Dupuis President |
