Commander Ty Bush received his commission via the Enlisted Commissioning Program NROTC at North Carolina State University in May 1999.

His first tour was onboard USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80) from March 2000 to November 2001 where he served as the Communications Officer. There, he qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer. From November 2001 through June 2003, CDR Bush was attached to Commander Destroyer Squadron 24 as the assistant Operations Officer deploying to the Mediterranean Sea onboard USS SPRUANCE.

His first assignment ashore was at Surface Warfare Officer School center of excellence in Newport, Rhode Island where he served as an instructor. While at SWOS, he earned a Master's of Science degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Rhode Island graduating summa cum laude. After SWOS, he completed SWO Department Head School graduating with distinction.

His first Department Head assignment was a three year tour onboard USS CARNEY (DDG 64) as the Weapons and Combat System Officer deploying to the Persian Gulf twice as part of the HARRY S. TRUMAN and DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER Strike Group. While there, the ship earned numerous awards including the Marjorie Sterrett Battleship Fund award as well as two Battle Effectiveness Awards.

CDR Bush reported to the Army Junior War College in May 2010, where he completed his Joint Professional Military Education.

CDR Bush reported to NAVPERSCOM in Millington, TN in July 2011 as the Full Time Support Junior Surface Warfare Detailer where he executed numerous Navy Operational Support Center screening boards and FTS Major Command boards. While there, he was screened for Surface Commander Command.

CDR Bush reported to BUPERS-3 in Millington, TN in September 2012 to July 2015 as the URL Reserve Officer Community Manager and Reserve Deputy for BUPERS-318.

CDR Bush reported to LCSRON Two in Mayport, FL in April 2016 to April 2018 as the Executive Officer of LITTLE ROCK GOLD (LCS CREW 115).

CDR Bush served as the Commanding Officer of LITTLE ROCK GOLD in Mayport, FL. from 20 Apr 2018 to 08 Sep 2019. His personal awards include Navy/Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four), Navy Achievement Medal (three), good conduct medal (three) and various unit and campaign ribbons. CDR Bush hails from Blakely, GA.
