AG Aerographer's Mate - AG's are the Navy's weather forecasters. They are trained in meteorology and the use of aerological instruments. They prepare weather maps and forecasts. AG's data improves the accuracy of anti-aircraft firing, shore bombardment and delivery of weapons by aircraft.
BM Boatswain's Mate - Boatswain's Mates are involved in all activities relating to marlinspike, deck, and boat seamanship. They oversee the maintenance of the ship's external structure and deck equipment, and act as petty officers in charge of small craft . They may also perform duties as Master-at-Arms, serve in or take charge of gun crews, and damage control parties.
CS Culinary Specialist (Surface) - Culinary specialists prepare menus, order and prepare food items. They operate the ship's galley and dining facilities.
DC Damage Controlman - Damage controlmen perform the work necessary for damage control, ship stability and fire-fighting.
EM Electrician's Mate - EM's operate and repair of a ship's electrical power plant. They also maintain and repair power and lighting circuits, distribution switchboards, generators, motors and other electrical equipment.
EN Engineman - Enginemen are responsible for internal diesel and gasoline engines, refrigeration, air-conditioning, distilling-plant equipment and compressors.
ET Electronics Technician - ET's are responsible for electronic equipment used to send and receive messages, detect enemy planes and ships, and determine target distances.
FC Fire Controlman (Non-Conventional) - FC's maintain the equipment used in weapons systems to ensure the accuracy of Navy guided-missile and surface gunfire-control systems.
GM Gunner's Mate - Gunner's Mates operate and maintain all gunnery equipment, missile and rocket launchers, guns, turrets, and associated equipment.
GSM Gas Turbine System Technician (Mechanical) - GSM's are responsible for all gas turbine engines, propulsion equipment and related control systems.
HM Hospital Corpsman - Corpsmen provide health care to the crew. They function as pharmacy and medical technicians, nurse's aides, physician's assistants, and medics. They provide first aid and minor surgery, as well as food service inspections.
HT Hull Maintenance Technician - Hull Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the ships' hull, fittings, piping systems and machinery. They maintain all shipboard plumbing and piping systems, and look after the ship's safety and survival equipment.
IS Intelligence Specialist - IT's collect and interpret intelligence information about the enemy. They analyze photographs and prepare charts, maps, and reports that describe in detail the ship's strategic mission.
LS Logistics Specialist (Surface) - LS's manage inventories of repair parts, general and specialized supplies, as well as distribute mail. They procure, receive, store and issue material and repair selected components.
MN Mineman - Minemen test, maintain, and repair mines and their components.
OS Operations Specialist - The OS's operate the radars, navigation and communications equipment in the ship's Combat Information Center (CIC) on the bridge. They detect and track ships, planes, and missiles, operate and maintain identification friend or foe (IFF) systems, electronic countermeasures (ECM) equipment and radio-telephones. They also may control and assist aircraft.
QM Quartermaster - QM's assist the navigator and officer of the deck (OOD). They steer the ship, take radar bearings, make depth soundings and tale celestial observations. They also plot courses and command small craft.
YN Yeoman (Surface) - Yeomen perform administrative and clerical work. They deal with visitors, coordinate travel, submit passport applications, route telephone calls and incoming mail.
